Types of systems
We can supply activated carbon solvent recovery plants applied in various markets using processes with regeneration by steam (used in the presence of solvents that are poorly soluble in water) or nitrogen (used in the presence of solvents soluble in water).
The process is based on the ability of activated carbon to retain most solvents.
In addition to the standard systems, we also have compact and modular solution.
Steam regeneration
The solvent-laden air sucked from the production by means of a fan, filtered, and cooled is sent to the adsorption section made up of several adsorbers.
When the carbon is saturated, regeneration is carried out by steam.
The mixture of water and solvent vapor produced is subsequently condensed and cooled.
Solvents not soluble in water (such as toluene, hexane, chlorinated hydrocarbons) are separated from the water by means of a decanter while the organic fraction dissolved in the water is removed by stripping with air or steam. For any purification of the solvent, a distillation section can be used.
The regenerated carbon is cooled and dried with air in a closed circuit.
Nitrogen regeneration
The solvent-laden air sucked from the production by means of a fan, filtered and cooled is sent to the adsorption section made up of several adsorbers.
When an adsorber reaches its maximum working capacity, regeneration with nitrogen is carried out through the following steps:
- Removal of oxygen from the adsorber by nitrogen flushing
- Heating the activated carbon with nitrogen in a closed circuit and condensing the solvent released from the carbon
- Cooling of the activated carbon for the new adsorption phase
The recovered raw solvent is purified by distillation and/or dehydration.
Additional services
Design and construction of rotoconcentrators for processes with low solvent concentrations (< 1 g/m3) in order to reduce the flow polluted by the solvent with the increase in concentration and the consequent optimization of the process and management costs.
We also provide the necessary maintenance on activated carbon (extraction, sieving, reactivation) and all assistance for both the process and plant engineering for the management and maintenance of the plants.
